UN 1202
UN 1202 — diesel fuel
UN 1202 is gas oil, diesel fuel, or heating oil, placarded class 3.
UN 1202 covers gas oil, diesel fuel, and heating oil. It is a class 3 flammable liquid. In practice on the railroad you can treat a 1202 placard as a diesel or heating-oil shipment unless the papers say a more specific blend.
It sits next to 1203 in the numbering, and the cars can look alike. 1203 is gasoline. 1202 is the heavier fuel oil side of the family. The last digit is the difference between those two sentences.
The placard still doesn't tell you the tank specification or the reporting mark. Write all three down if you are keeping a note: mark, number, and 1202.
Identification only. If a car is leaking or in a wreck, move away and call your local emergency number. Responders use the Emergency Response Guidebook. This page is not that book.
