Class 9
Class 9 — miscellaneous
Class 9 is the miscellaneous hazard class, used when the risk doesn't fit classes 1 through 8.
Class 9 is miscellaneous dangerous goods. It is the class for materials that are regulated but don't fit 1 through 8: some elevated-temperature loads, some environmentally hazardous substances, and other odds and ends the rules place here.
Because the class is a catch-all, the identification number does more work than it does on a class 3 gasoline car. "Class 9" alone is a weak description. Copy the four digits.
A class 9 placard is still a hazmat placard. It is not a decorative diamond and it is not a reporting mark.
Identification only. If a car is leaking or in a wreck, move away and call your local emergency number. Responders use the Emergency Response Guidebook. This page is not that book.
